The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from their first championship after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field.

The victory extends Milwaukee's winning streak to eight games, tying the record for the longest winning streak in a single postseason. The team now leads the best-of-seven World Series 3-1.

The offense exploded in the fifth inning, when the Brewers scored eight runs with two outs. This marks the first time in World Series history that a team has scored eight two-out runs in one inning. The rally began with a single by Jackson Chourio, who stole second base to start the sequence. Christian Yelich walked, and William Contreras singled to load the bases. A controversial play at second base was overturned on review, allowing Brice Turang to drive in two runners with a single. Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, and Sal Frelick added the remaining runs to make the score 8-0.

Robert Gasser, a rookie left-hander, pitched one hit through six innings. He allowed a leadoff single to Yandy Díaz in the first but retired the next 14 batters. Gasser became the first starter to face the minimum 18 batters through six innings of a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001. He was also the first left-handed pitcher to achieve this feat since Sandy Koufax in 1965.

Manager Pat Murphy praised Chourio, who finished with four hits in five at-bats and a stolen base. Chourio has eight hits in three Series games. Through a translator, Chourio said he treated each at-bat as if it were his last. He also noted that he draws discipline from reading the book of Kobe Bryant.

Tampa Bay starter Freddy Peralta, the American League Championship Series MVP, gave up five runs and seven hits in four and two-thirds innings. Rays manager Kevin Cash said Peralta felt good but was out of sync, leading to inconsistencies in the strike zone. Cash described the team's mentality as having a "chip and a chair," noting that the team must win Game 4.

Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth inning for Milwaukee, allowing one run and two hits in his first appearance in three and a half months. He had been sidelined by a shoulder injury that was initially thought to require surgery.

The Rays, who won 98 regular-season games, have never won a World Series in 29 seasons. The Brewers, who won 103 regular-season games, are led by 67-year-old manager Pat Murphy. If Milwaukee wins Game 4, it will become the first team to sweep a league championship series and the World Series since the 1976 Cincinnati Reds.

Griffin Jax is scheduled to start Game 4 for Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. The Brewers have not announced a starter. The Rays played in white Devil Rays uniforms in front of a sellout crowd of 40,388 at Tropicana Field, which underwent major renovations after Hurricane Milton damaged the roof in 2024.
