Nikolaj Coster-Waldau rested on a fold-out bed in a Kyiv metro station while waiting for the all-clear on Tuesday. Photos from Reuters, cited by El País, show the actor sleeping among other passengers during the air-raid alert.
Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, arrived in Ukraine on a visit. He rode the subway on October 28 when Russian attacks struck the city. He also took selfies with local residents while sheltering underground.
The visit began with a stop at a bar in the Podilskyi district. Veta Zadorozhnaya, who posted a photo with the actor on Threads, described him as a pleasant man. She noted they did not speak because he was in a hurry.
The specific purpose of the trip has not been publicly disclosed. Coster-Waldau has served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador since 2016. He focuses on climate change and gender equality issues.
In February 2026, he participated in an event run by the Danish Cultural Institute. He read works by Ukrainian authors alongside other guests. Angelina Jolie visited Ukraine in August 2026, meeting with soldiers' families and children.
