Sebastian Aho scored with 9:41 left in the third period to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The win stopped Boston's eight-game points streak and snapped the Bruins' two-game winning run. The Hurricanes, who hold the best record in the league, entered the game as the first NHL team to reach 20 points, a first for the franchise. Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves to improve his record to 8-0-0, matching the longest season-opening winning streak by a goalie in franchise history. He tied former teammate Frederik Andersen, who set the mark five years ago. Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves for Boston but could not prevent the loss.

Jackson Blake tied the game with 52 seconds remaining in the first period. Pavel Zacha had given Boston the lead with 1:31 into the game on a power play. The Hurricanes killed two power plays in the final five minutes. Boston's Matthew Poitras hit the post with a backhanded shot on an open net shortly before Aho's goal. Aho has 19 points this season, a team high. The Hurricanes were scoreless on four power plays. This was Carolina's first home game in two weeks after a 3-1-1 road trip.

Both teams play Thursday. The Bruins visit St. Louis. The Hurricanes host Columbus.
