The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night in Raleigh, snapping Boston's eight-game points streak. The result extends Carolina's season-opening dominance while capping a two-week absence from home ice following a 3-1-1 road trip.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves to improve his record to 8-0-0. This performance matches the longest season-opening winning streak by a goaltender in franchise history, a mark previously set by Frederik Andersen five years ago. Jeremy Swayman stopped 28 shots for Boston, which entered the contest as the second-best team in the Eastern Conference.
Jackson Blake tied the score with 52 seconds remaining in the first period. Sebastian Aho provided the deciding goal with 9:41 left in the third period, shortly after Matthew Poitras hit the post on an open-net backhand. It marked Aho's eighth goal of the season, contributing to his team-high total of 19 points.
Carolina became the first NHL team to reach 20 points this season, a franchise first. The Hurricanes killed two power plays in the final five minutes to protect their lead. Boston scored once on the power play early in the game through Pavel Zacha but failed to convert on subsequent chances.
Both teams return to action Thursday. The Bruins will visit St. Louis, while the Hurricanes host Columbus at home.
