Gasoline prices are way up, and so are energy and food costs. That is the primary calculation for voters in Pennsylvania who plan to support Democratic candidates in next Tuesday's midterm elections. Despite widespread skepticism about the opposing party's competence, many residents say the current administration's performance on affordability has pushed them to change their voting habits.

Tomas, a voter from Doylestown, acknowledged he does not fully trust Democrats. He told Fox News Digital he is voting for them because President Donald Trump is taking the country down the tubes. Clay, another resident, offered a similar assessment. He said the current party is so messed up that voters might as well change it, even though he does not trust the Democrats either.

Chris, also from Doylestown, pointed to specific economic data. He noted that nothing has gotten cheaper in the past two years. He questioned how much worse conditions could get with Trump in office, arguing that a Democratic victory would not likely push prices higher. Some voters, however, cited non-economic factors as their main motivation.

Nancy from Newtown Square described the president as mentally ill and accused the Republican Party of failing to rein him in. Tom from Media said he needs to slow down what the president is doing. Bill stated he is voting straight Democrat because the Republican Party refuses to stand up to what he called the fascist actions of Donald Trump. Another voter prioritized immigration, the renaming of the Kennedy Center, and the war in Ukraine over inflation.

The election is set for next Tuesday. Pennsylvania is a battleground state where results will help determine control of Congress. Republicans are fighting to keep their majorities while the president rallies his base. A Democratic win in either chamber could complicate the administration's legislative agenda for the remainder of the term.

Cook Political Report recently adjusted its forecast for the 1st Congressional District in Bucks County. The organization moved Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick's race against Democrat Bob Harvie from likely Republican to lean Republican. This shift signals a more competitive contest as Election Day approaches. Voters in the district continue to weigh these factors as they prepare to cast ballots.

Some Democrats acknowledge that former President Joe Biden overshot the recovery from the pandemic. Tom admitted that the Trump administration is making institutional changes that will be harder to reverse than simple spending cuts. He believes these structural shifts pose a larger threat than the inflation seen at the end of the previous administration's term.
