Shawn Carter, widely known as Jay-Z, will perform as the main act during the Super Bowl halftime show next February. The announcement means fans will see the 25-time Grammy winner on the field rather than behind the scenes. The NFL and Apple Music revealed the news on social media on Monday night during a game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. This confirms recent reports from Puck that cited industry sources.

Jay-Z’s company, Roc Nation, has produced the halftime show for the NFL since 2019. The rapper has helped choose the artists for the event during that time. Now, he is taking on the performer role for the 2027 game. The announcement post featured a black and white video of Jay-Z in the stands with a goat on his lap. The clip played the opening line of his song Public Service Announcement (Interlude).

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement that he had one request when he first agreed with Roc Nation to produce the show. He wanted Jay-Z to take the stage himself whenever the moment felt right. Goodell expressed excitement for fans around the world to experience the artist’s work. He described the impact Jay-Z has had on the halftime show during their partnership.

Jay-Z responded to the news in a statement on Monday. He noted that his journey started with his debut album Reasonable Doubt and now extends to the Super Bowl stage. He described the past thirty years of music and work as a dream come true. This follows the conclusion of his 30 Tour, which marked the 30th anniversary of that debut album. His final two shows for that tour took place at SoFi Stadium.

Super Bowl 61 is scheduled for February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game and the halftime performance will air on ESPN, ABC, and Disney+. The event will also be available on mobile devices through NFL+. It is not yet known if Beyoncé or other collaborators will make appearances during the show. Past headliners have chosen different approaches, with some performing solo and others inviting major stars.

Last year, Bad Bunny headlined the halftime show with cameos from Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. That performance received seven Creative Arts Emmys this year, making it the most awarded halftime show in history. Jay-Z received one of those awards as a producer. Kendrick Lamar also won an Emmy for his performance at the 2025 show. Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of music, told fans to expect an incredible show next year.
