Marvin Kentrez Pryien, 26, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday following an alleged car theft in Lynn that left a six-year-old child locked in the backseat. Everett police identified Pryien, a resident of Malden, as the suspect in the incident that occurred earlier in the week.

The child was safely reunited with their parents on Monday night. Everett officers initially booked Pryien for several motor vehicle infractions, including reckless endangerment of a child, and for having an outstanding arrest warrant. Lynn police subsequently took custody of Pryien to transport him back to the city to face additional charges, which include kidnapping.

Lynn Police Chief Christopher Kelly said the department’s primary goal was to locate the child and bring them home safely. Kelly noted that the child was recovered approximately 39 minutes after the initial report. He stated that technology, proactive police work, and interagency partnerships made a meaningful difference when every minute counts.

The incident began shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday when Lynn police received a call regarding a motor vehicle theft near 309 Boston Street. The vehicle contained a six-year-old in the backseat. Investigators identified the car and utilized the department’s FLOCK Safety Automated License Plate Recognition system. The system tracked the vehicle as it left Lynn and headed toward Saugus.

Police shared that location data with surrounding departments and the Massachusetts State Police. An AMBER Alert process was initiated while investigators attempted to locate a cell phone left inside the car. At 5:15 p.m., Everett police located and stopped the stolen vehicle.

Pryien was taken into custody immediately, and the child was recovered. Emergency medical personnel transported the child to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for evaluation. A parent was escorted by Lynn police to the hospital for the reunion.

The incident remains under investigation, and police said additional criminal charges will be released when appropriate. It was not immediately clear if Pryien had obtained an attorney for his Tuesday court appearance.
